Not At Any Price: Twitter Denied Data To Google And Bet On Itself

If Twitter continued to sell its firehose to Google, fewer searches would occur on Twitter’s internal search engine where the microblog platform can serve its own ads. That’s why sources familiar with the negotiations tell me Twitter wouldn’t renew the data access deal at any price, or at least set a ludicrously high price to sink the deal. Cash and increased visibility on Google Search was more valuable to Twitter in 2009 when it was still trying to gain serious traction. But by July 2011 Twitter was more established and ready to try monetizing without Google. A firehose deal would ...

MySpace Isn’t Dead In The US, It’s Just Getting Closer To Zero Users… As Twitter, G+ Grow

If you look at just one month of data, you’ll see that Myspace still has users. That’s the good news for the aging social network. The bad news is that it has kept losing them through its many executive changes, redesigns and the recent acquisition by Specific Media and Justin Timberlake. Facebook Page Performance Art Glitchr Purposefully Tries To Activate Code Glitches

Making the link rounds among designers in Silicon Valley this holiday season is Facebook fan page Glitchr, which tries to mess up Facebook code on purpose. While I had previously postulated that the page might be run by the venerable former Facebooker Evan Priestley, instead it is run by some Greek dude, Laimonas Zakas. Click on any of the links in Glitchr’s posts and they will do anything from bring up random Unicode characters to load a Facebook navigation bar multiple times. Go on, don’t be afraid. So how does he do it? Well, Zakas essentially “paints” with ...

Twitter dumps on Google’s new search revamp

On Tuesday, we reported on Google's major revamp of its search service. That revamp included adding information to search results generated from Google's own Google+ social network. Now AllThingsD.com reports that in a rather unusual and public move, one of Google's rivals, Twitter, is speaking out against these changes: Twitter is concerned that Google's changes would not allow "tweets" from its hundreds of millions of users to show up in Google's new search results. Its full statement is as follows: For years, people have relied on Google to deliver the most relevant results anytime they wanted to find something on the ...
