Samsung planning ‘brilliant’ new Windows Phones for Europe

It’s fair to say that Samsung’s current Windows Phone offering in Europe isn’t exactly mind-blowing. After its impressive Omnia 7 was released with the first wave of Windows Phone 7 devices in October 2010, the Omnia W was something of a disappointment for many, who saw its similar specs and smaller screen as not being much of an improvement over its predecessor, especially in light of increasingly superlative rival handsets, such as Nokia’s Lumia 800 and the HTC TITAN. Nokia‘s dying Symbian is still number one, but its market share has shrunk considerably in this same period, and there’s no reason to believe this trend will change. ...

Apple’s Patent War With Samsung Moves to Japan

After patent infringement lawsuits in Australia, South Korea and Germany, Apple has now sued Samsung in Japan on similar grounds. It accuses Samsung of violating Apple’s iPhone and iPad-related patents with its Samsung Galaxy series of smartphones and tablets. Apple is seeking the suspension of sales of Galaxy S and Galaxy S II smartphones as well as Samsung’s tablet, the Galaxy Tab 7, in Japan. Based on its success in Europe and Australia, Apple is hopeful the judge will once again side with Apple. In addition to the sales ban, Apple is also seeking 100 million yen ($1.3 million) in damages. According ...
