Android Makes Big Gains on iOS in Europe

Android has been the top smartphone platform in the U.S. and the world for more than half a year. Now, it’s experiencing similarly fast growth in Europe. According to comScore’s latest report, which measures smartphone adoption rates in EU5 — France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom — Android has grown an amazing 16.2% between July 2010 and July 2011, which propelled it to second place on the top smartphone platform list. Nokia Posts Huge Quarterly Loss, Sees Better Times Ahead

Nokia reported abysmal Q2 2011 results on Thursday: a $693 million operating loss and a 20% year-over-year decline in net sales. Such a poor quarter is likely the result of continued weakness in smartphone sales as Nokia prepares to switch to Microsoft’s smartphone platform, Windows Phone 7.
